Rajnath Singh Urges Italy Not to Share Defence Technology with Pakistan

During bilateral talks, India raises security concerns and calls for responsible defence cooperation with Italy. Asking for no sharing of sensitive defence data with Pakistan.

India’s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has asked Italy not to share its defence technology with Pakistan, flagging serious security reasons during the bilateral discussions. The remarks came during his bilateral talks with Italian Defence Minister Guido Crosetto, where India emphasised that military technology transferring to Pakistan could destabilize regional and strategic balance in South Asia.

What Rajnath Singh Said

During his meeting with Italian Defence Minister Guido Crosetto, Rajnath Singh clearly conveyed India’s position on defence cooperation involving Pakistan. He stated partners should “exercise caution in defence cooperation” and “take into account India’s security concerns” ensuring that sensitive technologies are not transferred to nations that could lead to trouble.

Singh further pointed out that there might be other ramifications of transferring technology to Pakistan by stating it could” impact the security environment in the region”. Further, he added, India’s relation with Pakistan should be kept in view by Italy when it comes to decision-making regarding military matters.

India’s Security Concerns

India has consistently opposed defence technology sharing with Pakistan, citing its longstanding tensions, including concerns over cross-border terrorism and military confrontation. Singh reiterated that such handling of defence equipment could strengthen Pakistan’s military capabilities in ways that may destabilise the region.

India expects its strategic partners to abide by international standards when dealing with defence exports, taking into consideration security by contributing in maintaining global peace and stability in the South Asian region.

India-Italy Defence Talks

India and Italy conducted defence dialogue discussions in an attempt to enhance their bilateral relations by concentrating on defence industry manufacturing, technology, and partnerships.

According to Singh, “mutual trust and common interests” between two nations should be the basis for establishing their bilateral partnership.

The two countries looked at ways of developing industrial cooperation in the defence area and improving the strategic partnership between them.

Strategic Message to Global Partners

The statement by Singh indicates the diplomacy that India has adopted as an attempt to address its security problems with regard to Pakistan among its other global partners.

When the country addressed Italy, it showed that India considers its interests.

According to the Defence Minister, it is vital to ensure responsible defence cooperation to have peace in the world.

He stressed that although India considers its relations with Italy significant, there are matters concerned with security issues that should take precedence.

India attempts to build strong international relationships with regard to its security problems.
