Xiaomi Unveils Xiaomi 17 Ultra and Xiaomi 17 in India With Leica Camera Technology

Xiaomi has just launched two new flagship phones in India, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra and the Xiaomi 17, expanding its line of premium devices in a competitive high-end smartphone market.

Launched yesterday at an event, both phones are part of the Xiaomi 17 series and feature a camera system that was co-developed with Leica, one of the most famous optical companies in the world, noted for their precision lenses.

Beginning on March 18th, both phones will be sold through various online and physical retailers throughout India.

Premium Displays and Flagship Design

The Xiaomi 17 Ultra boasts a massive 6.9-inch LTPO AMOLED that produces stunning images with a refresh rate of 120 Hz and can reach a peak brightness of 3,500 nits. Weighing in at roughly 218 grams, it features a robust aluminium alloy frame to ensure the device can stand up against any challenge it may face. Additionally, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra is rated IP68 for both water and dust resistance and is available in three colours: White, Black, or Starlit Green.

In addition to the Xiaomi 17 Ultra, there is also the standard Xiaomi 17, which has a slightly smaller display of 6.3 inches using an LTPO AMOLED display, but it still has the same impressive specifications as its larger sibling. The Xiaomi 17 weighs only 191 g, is rated IP68 for both water and dust resistance, and will be sold in four different colours: Venture Green, Alpine Pink, Ice Blue, and Black.

Powerful Battery and Charging Capabilities

Xiaomi’s 17 Series Highlights Battery Performance: The Xiaomi 17 Ultra is equipped with a 6,000 mAh battery and 90W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. Even though the size of the Xiaomi 17 is less than the Ultra model, it still includes a slightly larger 6,300 mAh battery, along with 100W of wired fast charging and 50W of wireless charging. The features provided with each of these devices will help shorten the amount of time it takes to charge your device while providing you with extended use time for users who are heavy smartphone device users.

Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Powers Both Devices

The latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor powers both smartphones, making them among the strongest Android smartphones available today. Both phones come equipped with Xiaomi’s latest operating system, HyperOS 3.5, providing faster performance, improved device connectivity and enhanced AI integration throughout the entire Xiaomi ecosystem.

Leica-Engineered Camera Systems

Xiaomi’s flagship series will continue to highlight the importance of photo taking as they move into their next iteration.

The Xiaomi 17 Ultra has a single main camera containing a 50MP 1-inch LOFIC sensor, and it has a sub-200MP camera equipped with a periscopic telephoto lens with a mechanical zoom ability of between 75mm and 100mm. This also includes a 50MP ultra-wide-angle camera.

There will be a 50MP front-facing camera for taking selfies or for use in video chatting.

Xiaomi 17 will include a 3-camera configuration of 50MP, 50MP (periscopic), and 50MP (ultra-wide angle). The front camera style will also have the same 50MP camera setup.

Through a partnership with Leica, Xiaomi aims to create better colour representation, sharper resolution, and improved nighttime shot quality.

Pricing and Availability

The price of the Xiaomi 17 Ultra in India is ₹129,999, and thus it is considered a premium flagship device. On the other hand, the price of Xiaomi 17 has been set at ₹89,999 with great flagship-type features at a much lower price point than other flagships. Both the Xiaomi 17 Ultra and Xiaomi 17 will go on sale starting March 18 on Amazon, Xiaomi’s official website, and via authorised retailers in India. By launching the Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi is solidifying their place in the high-end smartphone market of India, and there is fierce competition from other global brands.
