Car Plunges Into 200-Foot Gorge in Himachal’s Una, Two Killed in Fiery Crash – Video

Tyre burst suspected as cause; victims returning from Chintpurni shrine, probe underway

A speeding car plunged into a deep gorge and caught fire in Himachal Pradesh’s Una district, killing two people on Wednesday afternoon. The accident, which has been recorded by CCTV camera footage, suggests that it took place on the Bharwain-Hoshiarpur road. The road is notorious for its hairpin bends and steep inclines.

How the Accident Took Place

Two people died in a car accident, when the car traveling slid from the road into a ravine and caught fire near Bharwain, in the Una district of Himachal Pradesh, police sources said.

On the Chintapuri Mata temple road this horrific accident took place around 3.30 pm, a hilly region, curvy road which connects Bharwain  with Hoshiarpur.

Eyewitnesses saw the car catch fire after falling in the gorge. The car number was visible near the accident spot while it caught fire, which stated it belongs to Punjab.

The video seen to be recorded by CCTV camera posted on social media showed the car going out of control on the curve and plunging directly into the ravine.

Injuries and Rescuing Mission

Both persons sitting in the car died due to burn injuries as soon as the car burst into flames after crashing. The car was already destroyed even before reaching the spot.

A deceased body was found outside the burnt car and later another body was found within the car itself. The identity of individuals are not yet confirmed, but their Adhar suggests they were from Punjab’s Ludhiana. They were returning from Mata Chintpurni temple, performing rituals and met with an accident.

Investigation by Police and Safety Issues

A case has been registered by the police and an investigation is being conducted into what exactly led to the accident. They are examining the footage from the CCTV camera, the pieces of the wreckage, and even the mechanisms of the vehicle.

The authorities observed that the crash took place in an area which is categorized as a “black spot” due to broken patches of the road and the presence of a straight drop off into the gorge.

This has again proven that the risks related to speeding, hazardous driving conditions on the roads, and no guardrails on hilly areas pose dangers.
