Merit certificates will be issued to high performing students only as CBSE Class 12th Result 2026 are announced.
Class 12th CBSE 2026 results were announced on Tuesday, but the merit list of this year is yet to be released. The Central Board of Secondary Education said the decision of not releasing the merit list was to avoid unhealthy competition among students who appeared for the board exams.
The board clarified that as the topper list has not been viewed yet, but students with high performance will be awarded with merit certificates, Hindustan Times reported.
This year’s pass percentage of Class 12th students who appeared for the CBSE examination is less compared to that of 2025. In 2026, the pass percentage for full subjects was 85.20%, a decline of 3.19 percent points from 88.39% in 2025.
CBSE Class 12th results for CBSE board examination can be checked via the official website results.cbse.nic.in, cbse.gov.in, cbseresults.nic.in, digilocker.gov.in, and results.gov.in. The candidate can even check the result via the DigiLocker app and UMANG app.
Why CBSE Did Not Release Merit List 2026
According to CBSE, it did not release the merit list for the CBSE Class 12th toppers 2026 to discourage students from engaging in any unhealthy academic rivalry. The board has maintained its stand of not releasing a merit list for candidates so as to lower the pressure on them and prevent unnecessary comparisons among them.
Despite the lack of merit lists, the deserving candidates would still be honored with merit certificates. The board has explained that the merit certificates would be issued to the 0.1% top scorers per subject.
The Hindustan Times stated that CBSE was of the opinion that students should concentrate more on their academic performance than on their ranks.

The CBSE 12th result 2026 can be obtained by visiting the official CBSE result website or any government-sponsored online portals. Other than visiting websites, digital certificates can also be downloaded via DigiLocker and UMANG mobile apps.
