Home Grounds of Last Season’s Finalists
A reason why these two grounds are being considered is related to their association with last season’s top IPL teams.
The last season’s champion was Royal Challengers Bengaluru; the runner-up team was Punjab Kings. Both played in the IPL 2025 final, so they are strong candidates for hosting playoff matches in the 2026 season.
Over the years of the IPL, many of the games played in playoffs have been at the home ground of that season’s champion; this is a tradition of having a home game for the playoffs. Therefore, if the playoffs are played at these teams’ home ground, it can help to enhance the experience of the event by increasing participation from fans and boosting atmosphere.
Chinnaswamy Stadium’s Strong Credentials

Even though IPL 2026 has yet to be completed and is still in the beginning phases, both areas have successfully hosted home games in their respective cities. As of today, Royal Challengers Bengaluru has played 2 times at home and will play an additional 5 times (a total of 7 games) during the league portion of their schedule before moving the remainder of their games to Raipur. Similarly, Punjab Kings have hosted two home games thus far and will play the remainder of their league schedule there before moving the rest of their games to Dharamshala.
