Oracle Corporation has reportedly laid off approximately 12,000 employees in India, according to sources close to the employees affected by these layoffs, with yet-to-be-confirmed reports stating that there will be another round of layoffs within approximately one month. Reports that the company plans to conduct a global job cut of approximately 30,000 will be among the largest layoffs or changes in staffing levels and applications in the company’s recent history.
For most employees who have received news of their pending departure from the company or impending layoffs, they received such notice very recently, which has left many teams of employees who were just retained to work at Oracle scrambling to find out what happens next.
Nearly Half the Workforce Affected
For many years, India has served as a primary centre for Oracle’s worldwide business.
Around 30k people work at Oracle India, meaning the layoffs will impact a large portion of the company’s workforce in India.
Employees have indicated that these layoffs are part of an overall company reorganisation. The purpose of the reorganisation is to reduce redundancy and increase efficiency per employee through a restructuring process.
In an email sent to affected employees, Oracle indicated that some positions will no longer exist when the restructuring process occurs. To employees who have had long careers with Oracle, the email was very short yet also very difficult to receive.

What the Severance Package Includes
Employees who have been laid off will be provided with a compensation package.
The package includes, according to reports from the affected employees:
15 days of salary for each whole year of service,
The amount owed to the terminated employee up to the termination date,
Leave pay,
Gratuity payment based on eligibility,
One month of salary instead of notice.
The company has also allegedly offered two additional months of salary to those who accept the terms of resignation.
According to some former employees, the compensation package will only be made available to those who voluntarily resign and accept the terms of resignation.

Company Remains Silent
Oracle has yet to publicly acknowledge the reported extent of its layoffs; however, when asked about the reports, the firm chose not to make a statement. Nonetheless, internal employee communication indicates layoffs were part of an overall strategy by Oracle to realign teams and eliminate redundant employees. Furthermore, this trend is present within the global technology market as numerous organizations change their strategic direction through similar actions.
A Former Employee Raises Concerns
One former employee, Merugu Sridhar, shared his experience after losing his job earlier.
He said he was laid off months ago after raising concerns about long working hours in the company.
According to Sridhar, he had protested against 16-hour work shifts that some employees were allegedly expected to follow in India.
While his case relates to an earlier dismissal, his comments have added to the wider debate about working conditions in the technology sector.

Global Tech Industry Facing Turbulence
The layoffs at Oracle Corporation come at a time when many technology firms are reassessing their workforce.
After years of rapid hiring during the digital boom, several companies have begun trimming teams to control costs and adapt to changing market conditions.
Economic uncertainty, shifting demand, and rising operational expenses have forced many firms to rethink their expansion plans.
For workers, however, such decisions carry heavy personal consequences.
Behind every number in a layoff report lies a story of disrupted careers, financial stress, and uncertain next steps.
What Comes Next for Employees
If another round of layoffs does take place, thousands more workers could soon find themselves looking for new opportunities.
India’s technology sector remains strong overall, but sudden job losses still create ripple effects across families and communities.
Many affected employees are now updating resumes, reaching out to contacts, and preparing for the next stage of their careers.
For the moment, uncertainty remains the only certainty.
And across India’s vast tech workforce, thousands of professionals are waiting to see whether the reported second wave of layoffs will become reality.
