A heartbreaking incident in Noida has shocked residents after a 35-year-old man allegedly jumped from the 23rd floor of a residential tower with his two-year-old daughter in his arms, killing both instantly.
The tragedy unfolded at a high-rise housing society in Sector 102 on Monday morning. Police identified the man as Rahul Vijayran, a private school operator who had been living in the society for the past two months.
Authorities say the case has raised several unanswered questions, particularly because the man jumped from a tower different from the one where he lived.
Incident Took Place Early Morning
According to police officials, the incident occurred around 7:30 am inside the residential complex.
On Monday morning, Vijayran reportedly left his apartment with his two-year-old daughter, Vamika Vijayran, telling family members he was taking her to the society park to play.
At the time, his wife, Neetu Dahiya, was at home preparing breakfast.
Instead of going to the park, investigators say Vijayran entered another residential tower within the complex and went up to the 23rd floor of Tower 5.
Shortly afterward, he allegedly jumped from the building while holding the child.
Residents rushed outside after hearing loud screams and commotion within the society premises.
Residents Rushed Them to Hospital
When Neetu Dahiya stepped outside after hearing the disturbance, she found a man and a young child lying on the ground in a pool of blood.
Society residents immediately rushed the two to a nearby private hospital.
However, doctors declared both father and daughter dead on arrival.
The sudden tragedy left residents deeply shaken, with many struggling to understand what could have led to such a devastating act.
Family Shares Possible Reason
According to family members, Vijayran had been going through a difficult period in recent years.
His brother, Amit Vijayran, told police that Rahul’s eyesight had been severely affected after he contracted COVID‑19 during the pandemic.
The infection reportedly damaged his eyes, causing him to lose vision in one eye and significantly weakening sight in the other.
“My brother’s eyes were damaged when he contracted coronavirus,” Amit told investigators. “He lost vision in one eye and had limited vision in the other. He was deeply distressed because of this.”
Family members believe the emotional and physical strain may have affected his mental state.
Rahul Vijayran was married in 2014 and is survived by another daughter, aged 11, who studies in Dehradun and currently lives in a hostel there.
Police Investigating Suspicious Angle
Despite initial assumptions, police say several aspects of the case remain unclear.
Sub-Inspector Jagmal Singh said investigators are trying to determine why Vijayran chose to jump from a tower where he did not reside.
The family lived in Tower 9 of the residential society, but the incident occurred from Tower 5.
“The cause behind the suicide is yet to be ascertained, and no suicide note has been found,” Singh said.
He added that the family has not filed any complaint and has refused to pursue legal action.
Police are nevertheless continuing the investigation to establish the sequence of events and determine whether any additional factors were involved.
Shock and Grief Among Residents
Residents of the high-rise complex in Noida described the morning as chaotic and heartbreaking.
Many said the society quickly gathered around the scene after hearing screams and emergency calls for help.
Several residents helped transport the victims to the hospital while others contacted authorities.
The tragedy has sparked conversations about mental health struggles and the hidden pressures individuals may face even within seemingly normal lives.
Authorities have urged anyone experiencing emotional distress to seek professional help or contact mental health support services.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is ongoing.
