Latest iPhone 18 Pro Leak Suggests Familiar Design but Major Performance Upgrades

New leaks have indicated that the new iPhone 18 Pro is anticipated to have many internal changes but will maintain a design similar to the last generation of iPhone Pro models.

Reports around the smartphone supply chain suggest Apple may focus on very strong internal hardware improvements this year instead of making a large redesign.

These claims are based on a post by a very well-known Chinese tipster named Digital Chat Station, who shares lots of information and previews of upcoming smartphones on the Chinese social platform Weibo.

Design Changes May Be Minimal

Previously, speculation around the iPhone 18 Pro implied that Apple would bring in a redesigned look by either enhancing Dynamic Island technology or using hidden Face ID recognition. However, recent reports show that all of these redesigns for 2023 may not come true, but instead, reused parts from last year’s phone will be used to make a very similar-looking phone called “iPhone 17 Pro”. It is also speculated that Apple is either going to keep the same front camera setup and Face ID, which means no new design for those two functions, or they are going to delay getting rid of Face ID until the iPhone 19 Pro.

Major Hardware Upgrades Could Lead the Changes

While the exterior of the iPhone 18 Pro may look the same, it is expected to have different features internally. The iPhone 18 Pro is expected to use the new A20 processor chipset, which could use an advanced 2nm manufacturing process, according to initial leaks from TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company).

Using the 2nm manufacturing process will represent a significant technological advance compared with today’s smartphone processors and could improve the performance, efficiency, and battery life of the device.

Another potential innovation that could be included in the iPhone 18 Pro is WMCM (Wafer Level Multi-Chip Module) packaging technology. This type of system could allow certain hardware components, like RAM, Neural Processing Unit (NPU), Graphics Processing Unit (GPU), and CPU, to all be placed closer together on a single chip.

Tighter integration of these components could provide improved artificial intelligence processing capabilities, enable more advanced machine learning functionality, and be more energy efficient.

Battery and Camera Improvements Expected

There are also rumours that Apple is working to give the iPhone 18 Pro a new and bigger battery with a capacity of less than 5,000 mA. Apple typically uses watt-hours rather than milliamp hours to measure battery size; therefore, until after the official release, we will not know exactly how much capacity it has.

A bigger battery will help provide enough power to support some features like AI, high-refresh-rate displays and enhanced camera systems.

Also, there are reports that an improved camera system is likely to be included and that the iPhone 18 Pro will use a larger aperture sensor in order to allow more light into the camera, which will be greatly beneficial for low-light photography and will enable quicker shutter speeds, therefore resulting in clearer photographs under difficult lighting conditions.

Apple’s Strategy: Refinement Over Reinvention

In past years Apple has typically made gradual changes (rather than a complete redesign) with each annual release of an iPhone (or other product). They’ve primarily changed hardware features like performance and camera improvements instead of design features.

By taking a more gradual approach to making visual/external design changes with each new product release, Apple maintains visual/external consistency between products while still providing more powerful new hardware functions with every generation of hardware released.

Some industry analysts predict that the iPhone 18 Pro will likely have powerful new internal technology but will maintain a similar external design to previous iPhones.

What to Expect Next

Apple has not officially confirmed details about the iPhone 18 Pro, and the device is expected to be unveiled later in 2026 as part of the company’s annual smartphone launch cycle.

Until then, leaks and supply chain reports continue to provide early hints about what the next flagship iPhone might offer.

If the latest rumours prove accurate, the iPhone 18 Pro could deliver significant performance improvements, even if its outward appearance remains largely unchanged.
