A Surreal Occurrence on Southern Peripheral Road
While the truck’s consignment of liquor and other alcoholic beverages caught fire, Gurugram witnessed a surreal incident on Wednesday around 10:30PM. The fire spread rapidly given the crude oil spill; the truck caught in the amber beer, resulting in blazing flames. The base of the Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) had collapsed, leading to the 40-foot-deep craters. The devastating loss of such expensive stock has been the talk of social media and has sparked a massive stir on multiple forums.
Torrential rainfall expanded the fountaining possibilities.
The IMD recently showed concern towards Gurugram alongside other major areas of Delhi, notably after the record of 133 millimeters of rainfall. Alongside these regions, domes of water had formed across Basai, Golf Course Extension, and Rajiv Chowk. Imploring the users coming into work to refrain until relaxed hours and encouraging work-from-home days.
Road Collapse: Technological Surveys and Repairs Started

Concerns about the quality and reliability of previous repair work conducted at the sewage pipeline intersection arose since the center of the SPS was previously excavated. Officials suspect that the accumulation of rainwater extremely softened the road’s coating and the sudden weakening of the road structure happened moments before the truck would have arrived. To ensure the cause is accurate and assess the structural weaknesses of other vulnerable stretches in the city, further detailed technical inspections have been ordered.
Narrow Escape for N3 Truck Driver and Assistant
In a rare incident, the lucky driver and assistant of the truck managed to sustain very minor injuries. As reported by witnesses, both of them managed to jump out just in time, which is to say, right before the truck was submerging into the crater. The driver has also provided his side of the story to the local police, who in turn have taken it as a part of their extended investigation of the case.
Citywide Traffic Destruction Due To The Incident And Governmental Actions
Not only did the incident bring traffic to a standstill in multiple places of congestion, but it also worsened the situation due to endless rains. The district first responders, alongside the Gurugram traffic, responded to the incident by issuing alerts for all corporate and private workplaces to switch to remote work mode and telling the general public to refrain from leaving their homes. The IMD has since issued an Orange Alert for Gurugram and surrounding NCR regions, warning of continued heavy rainfall and the potential for further infrastructure failures
