Family Murders Twin Girls Over Desire for a Son: Shocking Crime in Telangana

In an unbelievable and sickening case that has caused immense outrage across India, an entire family of four are believed to be responsible for murdering their own twin daughters in Jubilee Nagar village (Telangana), simply because they were born female rather than being sons! The murderer’s motives appear to be directly related to their long-standing belief in gender discrimination and preference towards male children, which has caused great harm to many communities in India today.

A Family’s Deadly Obsession

Investigators say that 28-year-old Srisailam worked as an operator at Prathima Medical College and did not want daughters. He was also obsessed with his desire for a boy and attempted to force Mounika, his wife, to terminate her pregnancy with twins when he found out about it.

Reddy of the Karimnagar Rural Circle stated that Srisailam’s parents, Ashok and Lavanya, and his younger brother Rakesh, shared this mindset, trying numerous times to convince Mounika to terminate the pregnancy.

The family felt that daughters would be too burdensome financially and that any money used for acquiring a daughter would be spent on her marriage and other expenses, as well as having their almost ₹2 crore worth of assets “taken away” by having daughters.

The Calculated Crime

According to investigators, the murder was premeditated. Four days before the children were murdered, the family had planned the murder together. On April 3, Srisailam sent his wife to cook at home while he took the girls to their agricultural field. He waited until there was nobody else around before he caused the deaths of his two daughters.

“He had the girls sitting next to him play by the well,” said Inspector Reddy. He first pushed his older daughter, Geethanvika, into the well, where she died on impact. The second daughter, Geethamshi, tried to fight for her life and was pushed into the well; he then jumped in to manually drown her. It was a gruesome display of brutality.

Staging the Scene

Srisailam staged a fake rescue after he killed his children when he screamed for help, saying they fell into the water. When Mounika got there, one child was missing and one was found on the ground near the well. The villagers rushed in using ropes to rescue both children.

The villagers became suspicious of Srisailam because of inconsistencies in his story and reportedly beat him before the police got involved. Srisailam fled and told his mom, dad, and brother the plan was successful, and he and the other three suspects went into hiding with a family member in Gopalpur until they were arrested.

Experts were then called to get the second child’s body out of the well, highlighting the sad and horrific nature of the crime.

A Crime That Shocks the Conscience

Inspector Reddy stated that this investigation has exposed one of the largest, most shocking and unimaginable acts of crime against innocent children, simply because they are female. We will seek to punish all those who were part of this horrible event to the fullest extent of the law.

This event demonstrates just how deeply rooted the idea of preferring male babies is within certain societies, despite laws against gender discrimination and the education surrounding gender bias, as well as the way many gender crimes occur (i.e., gender-based violence/female infanticide) in many rural communities where patriarchal opinions are more prevalent than in urban areas.

Societal Implications

Debate about gender equality, social standards, and the need to enforce child protection laws has been reignited due to this case. Although there are laws in place such as the PCPNDT Act that make it illegal to abort based on gender, these incidents demonstrate that cultural pressures on women to have male children continue. Experts agree that informing people about these issues through public awareness campaigns and education will help to change how people perceive girls and value female lives. According to a children’s rights advocate, “This tragedy illustrates just how damaging entrenched gender bias can be.”

Justice and Accountability

The four individuals charged with this crime—father, grandparents, uncle, and others—are now in police custody. Police have committed to conducting a full investigation and prosecution of those responsible. People in the village are demanding justice for the innocent victims; they have voiced extreme anger concerning all communities about such brutality occurring at will and in disregard for others.

The recent brutal incident highlights how defenceless children are to the power of men operating within the parameters of male-dominated societies. It emphasises the must-have community watch over all that occurs and the need for systemic change to prevent domestic violence against women.
