Multiple areas in India will experience bad weather over the next few days due to the influence of a Western disturbance and cyclonic circulation. Meteorologists predict that millions of people will be affected by heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning and high winds. Most areas will experience wet, stormy, chilly weather through the next three to five days, with some areas expected to experience too much rain and/or wind for their safety.
Rain and Thunderstorms Expected in Northern States
The meteorological department has issued an alert regarding various locations within the western Himalayan core, predicting light to moderate rainfall/thunderstorms with potential snowfall at times. Rain from sources such as thunderstorms will be expected throughout the western Himalayan region and will affect states such as Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. There should be scattered amounts of rain (possible lightning) across affected areas with winds gusting up to 50km/hr.
In addition, the northern plains of India (including the states of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi) may see isolated rain elements as well as thunderstorms over the next few days.
Additionally, weather forecasters have indicated that there will be additional impact on weather patterns due to another western disturbance arriving within the foothills of the Himalayas sometime around the 11th of April.
Heavy Rain Likely in Northeast India
More rainfall activity is anticipated for regions in northeast India. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued forecasts for largely expansive amounts of rain and thunderstorms/gusty wind conditions in northeastern India for five days with gusty winds of 50 kmph in different areas being forecast.
Heavy rain alerts have been issued for Arunachal Pradesh on 4/9/2021 and 4/12/2021 (2 days before heavy rainfall is expected). Heavy rain warnings were also issued for both Assam and Meghalaya, with heavy rain expected on 4/9 and 4/10. It was also noted that heavy rain would occur in Tripura on 4/9.
Local authorities have advised all residents of areas affected by flooding and/or landslide risks to take the proper precautions to assist in maintaining their safety.
Thunderstorms and Strong Winds in Eastern India
Weather disruptions will also affect various states in eastern India. According to the IMD, the districts of West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, and Odisha could see light rain and / or storms with strong winds over the next few days. These locations may also have significant thundersqualls, with winds reaching up to 80 km/h in some areas; this could cause damage to buildings, trees and power lines.
Residents living in susceptible areas have been urged to remain inside during severe thunderstorms and to abide by regional meteorological directives.
Central and Southern Regions May Also See Rain
Weather disruptions will also affect various states in eastern India. According to the IMD, the districts of West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, and Odisha could see light rain and / or storms with strong winds over the next few days. These locations may also have significant thundersqualls, with winds reaching up to 80 km/h in some areas; this could cause damage to buildings, trees and power lines.
Residents living in susceptible areas have been urged to remain inside during severe thunderstorms and to abide by regional meteorological directives.
Delhi Likely to See Clear Skies
Delhi is expected to have a milder weather pattern compared to other locations where rainfall is forthcoming. In fact, from April 9th onward in the National Capital Region, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) anticipates mostly sunny conditions and moderate day-time air temperatures.
The IMD projects that on April 9th, the daytime temperature will reach a maximum range of 30 through 32 degrees Celsius, increasing to approximately 34 through 36 degrees Celsius as you approach the end of the day on April 11th. Night-time temperatures in the region will remain cooled, however, and strong winds during the daytime will continue to remain throughout this time frame (possibly in the range of 20 through 30 km/h).
Cooler Temperatures Across Several Regions
There will be a lot of active weather patterns during the next few days that are predicted to affect most of Northwest, Central and Eastern India with an increased chance of cooler temperatures versus seasonal averages for the next 3-5 days.
According to forecasters, many areas may remain around or below their seasonal average for 3 or 4 days but will progressively increase over the next few days thereafter due to surface heating returning. Many residents affected by recent heat waves may enjoy a short period of cooling due to this cooler spell. Nevertheless, the government authorities recommend that you continue to monitor your local weather alerts, especially in regions that receive greater than 50 or 60 mm of rain or a significant amount of wind.
