Amid rising global tensions and growing public concern over fuel availability, Omar Abdullah has revealed that Narendra Modi has assured all states that there will be no disruption in the supply of fuel and LPG across the country.
The assurance came during a meeting of chief ministers called by the prime minister to discuss the evolving geopolitical situation, particularly developments around the Strait of Hormuz and tensions in West Asia. The government clarified that India has sufficient reserves and logistics systems in place to maintain uninterrupted supplies of essential commodities.
PM Holds Emergency Meeting with Chief Ministers
During the meeting, the Cabinet Secretary of India briefed state leaders about the international situation and its potential impact on global oil supply chains.
Speaking to reporters in Jammu, Omar Abdullah said the Prime Minister clearly assured all participating chief ministers that India will not face any shortage of fuel or LPG despite global uncertainties.
He emphasised that the government is closely monitoring the situation and has already taken steps to ensure the steady movement of essential goods across the country.
According to Omar Abdullah, the central government’s message was clear: citizens should remain calm and avoid believing unverified rumours circulating online or through word of mouth.
Public Urged Not to Panic or Rush Fuel Stations
In recent days, speculation and rumours about a possible fuel shortage have caused panic buying in several regions. Many people began crowding petrol pumps, fearing disruptions in supply.
Addressing this concern, Omar Abdullah urged residents not to engage in panic buying.
He stated that rumors often spread quickly during uncertain situations and can create unnecessary anxiety among the public.
“The government has assured us that there is no shortage of fuel or LPG, and people should avoid spreading or believing rumors,” Abdullah said.
He added that unnecessary crowding at fuel stations could create artificial shortages and logistical pressure even when supplies are sufficient.
Adequate Stocks of Essential Commodities Available
The Chief Minister reassured residents of the Union Territory that adequate stocks of essential items, including fuel, LPG, and other critical commodities, are available.
He emphasised that the Government of India has already ensured supply chains remain stable, and there is no reason for panic.
India imports a large portion of its crude oil from international markets, and shipping routes such as the Strait of Hormuz play a vital role in global energy transportation. Any instability in the region often triggers speculation about oil supply disruptions.
However, officials have clarified that contingency planning and strategic reserves help the country manage such risks effectively.
Focus on Development and Infrastructure in Jammu & Kashmir
Apart from discussing fuel supply concerns, Omar Abdullah also spoke about several development initiatives in the Union Territory.
One such project is the International Yoga and Wellness Centre at Mantalai in Udhampur district, which was built at a cost of nearly ₹100 crore. The facility, located in the scenic region of Chenani tehsil, was envisioned as a major wellness tourism destination.
The centre was constructed at Aparna Ashram, once associated with controversial spiritual figure Dhirendra Brahmachari, who was known as the yoga mentor of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
Despite being completed several years ago, the centre is yet to become operational.
The chief minister told the legislative assembly that the government is looking for private partners under a public-private partnership (PPP) model to run the facility.
“The moment we find suitable players under the PPP model, the international yoga and wellness centre will be made functional,” he said.
Cable Cars Alone Cannot Boost Tourism
Omar Abdullah also addressed the issue of tourism development in Jammu and Kashmir.
He explained that simply installing cable car systems will not automatically bring tourists to new destinations.
While popular tourist spots like Gulmarg attract large crowds, similar cable car projects in Srinagar, Jammu, and Patnitop have not seen comparable footfall.
According to the Chief Minister, tourism growth requires a comprehensive strategy that includes better infrastructure, connectivity, accommodation, and sustainable planning.
He stressed that each destination has unique requirements and must be developed based on its local strengths and environment.
Government Calls for Calm
As global developments continue to dominate headlines, authorities are urging citizens to rely only on verified information and official announcements.
The government’s message remains clear: India’s fuel supply chain is secure, and there is no reason for panic or hoarding.
With assurances from the Prime Minister and confirmation from state leaders like Omar Abdullah, officials hope the public will stay calm and avoid actions that could create unnecessary disruption.
For now, the focus remains on maintaining stability, ensuring essential supplies, and continuing development initiatives across the country.
